Has China Passed The US In Internet Usage? (eMarketer)

“A recent article in Forbes, "China Surpasses US in Internet Use," cites an assertion by Dr. Charles Zhang's, CEO of Sohu.com, China's largest web portal, that, according to his internal research, Chinese Internet users now number over 150 million, possibly totalling as many as 200 million.

As the article states: "Nielsen NetRatings, which doesn't have statistics for China, reports that the US had 154 million active users in January 2006. This means that China, if Zhang is correct, is at or above the US in the number of Internet users."

But do the numbers hold up? To see, eMarketer compared them to other sources. “
